Mobile
phone betting
has completely changed the way people think about betting.
Once, you had to go to the racetracks or the different games
in order to place bets. However, then came online and now
mobile betting and changed all that. Now you can be down the
pub watching the match and if you can see how the games
outcome is swinging then you don't have to dash home to log
in and bet through your PC anymore! With mobile betting you
can bet on sports wherever you may be. Mobile betting is
great in front of the TV, at the stadium or on the bus on
your way home from work.
We have come to the new age of betting. Java-enabled graphics, colour-filled screens, technology that invoices on the monthly phone bill, and 3G networking combine to provide a service that rivals traditional gambling methods. Until now, gaming firms have found it hard to take advantage of mobile phone use. The size of the screen was too small and punters had to download special software, while most handsets did not have the processors to handle huge quantities of information. But the successful launch of Apple's iPhone, and the growing take-up of Blackberries and other advanced handsets, has changed that.
WAP & JAVA
Almost all mobile phones can access what are called WAP sites. WAP stands for Wireless Application Protocol and is a standard for accessing the Internet with wireless devices, for example mobile phones. However, depending on your handset and your mobile network, when you are accessing a WAP site, from some mobile phones you cannot make or receive voice calls at the same time. Your network operator charges you for the amount of time you are connected. You cannot sign-up to the bookmakers via there WAP service, you will need to sign-up online and then use your username and password to access their WAP site.
A lot of the Bookmakers also offer an alternative to using WAP on your mobile. They allow you to download a piece of Java onto your phone which uses GPRS rather than WAP. GPRS stands for General Packet Radio Service and is a radio technology that allows data transfer on mobile phones. Generally GPRS sends and receives data faster than WAP. Unlike WAP you can still make and receive calls whilst connected via GPRS. Your network operator charges you for the amount of data you send and receive and not for the amount of time you are connected. The Java alternative normally offers a smarter interface, however unlike WAP a lot of Mobile phones do not support it, so you may not be able to use it. If you're worried about your phone not being compatible get ready for a welcome surprise. Gambling operations have advanced so far that you are able to gamble on 1000's of todays handsets.
